Game Makers Iceland initially launched in 2016 as an independent community team within IGI (Icelandic Game Industry), itself part of the Icelandic Federation of Industries. In 2018, GMI was established as an independent organization, co-founded by Haukur Steinn Logason, Jói Sigurðss, Torfi Ásgeirsson and Alexandra Diljá Bjargardóttir — the team who had led the initiative from 2016. While the team has evolved over the years, our commitment to building and nurturing a diverse and inclusive game development community in Iceland remains unwavering.
Since its inception, GMI has hosted over 70 events, including lectures, game jams, studio visits, workshops and networking meet-ups. Additionally, GMI participated in organizing and sponsoring Isle of Games. Between events, Game Makers Iceland community members stay connected through our official Slack workspace. With ~800 participants, this platform connects the commercial games industry in Iceland with the indie, art, and academic communities.
Everyone with an interest in video game development is welcome to join and participate in the Game Makers Iceland community.
