Game Makers Iceland initially launched in late 2015 as an independent community team within IGI (Icelandic Game Industry), itself part of the Icelandic Federation of Industries. In 2018, GMI was established as an independent organization, co-founded by Alexandra Diljá Bjargardóttir, Haukur Steinn Logason, Jói Sigurðss and Torfi Ásgeirsson — the team who had led the initiative from the start. While the team has evolved over the years, our commitment to building and nurturing a diverse and inclusive game development community in Iceland remains unwavering.
Since its founding, GMI has hosted over 80 events, including lectures, game jams, studio visits, workshops and networking meet-ups. Additionally, GMI participated in organizing and sponsoring Isle of Games. Between events, Game Makers Iceland community members stay connected through our Discord server. With ~400 participants, this platform connects the commercial games industry in Iceland with the indie, art, and academic communities.
Everyone with an interest in video game development is welcome to join and participate in the Game Makers Iceland community.
